Outreach
Accompanying each of its tours, Birds of Paradise creates a range of outreach activities for schools or community groups. These fall into three broad categories:
- using drama to explore issues raised in the play
- building drama skills
- enhancing intellectual access (particularly aimed at young people with learning difficulties
The outreach programme is always tailored to the needs of each class/group and is relevant to the company’s touring production.
It seeks collaboration with partners/agencies to create a touring exhibition to accompany its touring production. For its recent tour of Beneath You, the company worked with Glasgow based 218 project, an alternative to custody project run by Turning Point Scotland. The project aims to reduce offending through addressing addiction, abuse and mental health issues. Women from the project created a photographic exhibition, which illustrated their life journeys since joining the project.
