Education and Outreach

Linking closely to Birds of Paradise's artistic programme, its Education and Outreach activities nurture and develop talent from an early age.

At present the core educational activities are:

  • working in specialist schools for disabled students both as part of the curriculum and as extra-curricular activity
  • creating outreach projects to complement the national tour for all schools
  • creating sensory theatre projects for young people with complex impairments
  • creating its tutor pool and developing disabled talent (DDT)
  • working with Project Partners and other partners to create specific projects

The company is also active in supporting mainstream schools and individual disabled students studying drama. It often works in partnership with other youth providers – e.g. the Royal Scottish Academy of Music and Drama’s YouthWorks programme and has established links with Further and Higher Education providers to improve access for disabled students to courses.

We are currently being funded to run a variety of pilot projects which will be evaluated as part of our 2010 Education Strategy.  Please watch Stop Press for further news of pilot projects.
